Black Sea Trade and Development Bank

The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) is the international financial institution of the member countries in the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). It was established by Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Türkiye and Ukraine with the purpose to support the economic development of the countries in the region. The agreement on the establishment of the BSTDB was signed on 23 December 1994 by the 11 countries participating in the BSEC. The agreement was ratified by law by the National Assembly and entered into force on 24 January 1997 (prom. SG No 33 of 1997).

The BSTDB provides financing of projects in the area of trade finance for encouragement of exports, promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, reconstruction and modernisation of the energy sector, modernisation of telecommunications and the transport sector, development of the financial sector, as well as improvement of the potential for development of the production and agricultural sectors. Projects contributing to the development of the region and to the cooperation among the member countries are of particular importance to the bank.

Bulgaria has the status of a founding member of the BSTDB and is an active shareholder. The Bulgarian shareholding in the authorised capital of the bank is 13.6%, or 270 000 shares. The country is represented in the governing bodies of the bank with a governor and an alternate governor in the Board of Governors and a director in the Board of Directors.
