Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov will take part in the meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) to be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 15 January 2016.

In the framework of the European Semester the Finance Ministers are expected to approve the Council recommendation on the economic policy of the euro area and to adopt Council conclusions on the annual growth survey and on the alert mechanism report. ECOFIN will discuss the wider use of the VAT reverse charge mechanism as a possible solution to combat VAT fraud in the EU.

During the meeting the Netherlands Presidency will present its main priorities for the work of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council in the first half of 2016. The Finance Ministers will be briefed on the current situation as regards the implementation of the banking union as well as on the next steps in the initiatives to combat the financing of terrorism.
