Deputy Prime Minister Vassilev had a meeting with the US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet

The Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev had a meeting with Mr. Derek Chollet, US State Department Counselor, and the delegation headed by him. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Spencer Boyer, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy, and the US Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E. Herro Mustafa. The purpose of the visit was to hold talks with US partners and allies on a number of strategic issues.
The two parties discussed issues related to upgrading the bilateral strategic dialogue between Bulgaria and the United States, which began in January 2020, strengthening common security and continuing transatlantic cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Assen Vassilev stressed the need to expand industrial cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States. He acquainted the guests with the efforts of the Bulgarian government in the fight against corruption, the improvement of the work of the judiciary and the diversification of energy sources in the region.
Counselor Chollet estimated highly the outcome of his talks with the representatives of the Bulgarian government: “We welcome the ambitious agenda of the new Bulgarian government and will willingly support it in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, corruption, climate change, energy diversification and other key issues”.
